Using the new Update Product Utility

This article provides instructions on how to update a Marigold .sav file when access issues occur due to subscription changes

When transitioning subscription levels in Marigold, users may face access challenges with layers due to unique Product IDs used for products like Bare Earth Composites in the Descartes Labs Catalog. Before working with .sav files post-update, users must update the Product IDs of affected layers.

This fix is quick and simple and involves using the new Update Computed Layer tool. As long as the project Area of Interest (AOI) falls within a geographic region that is currently accessible to the user, users should be able to resume work.

Using the Product 

Follow the steps below to update a .sav file that has product access issues: 

1. Open the file in Marigold
2. Navigate to the Processing toolbox
3. Click on the Raster managementdropdown
4. Click on Update computed layer 

In the Updated computed layer settings there will be options to choose and modify. Select all layers to create a list of affected Product IDs for updating. It is recommended to select all layers to ensure a comprehensive list of Products for the update.

Users have the option to choose the new Product ID to replace the old one. For instance, in the example below, the North American versions of the Bare Earth Composites will be exchanged for the Global ones.

If a product does not require conversion (such as the Global Surface Water Occurrence product used for water masking) simply leave it blank. The following example illustrates the final input for this Marigold project, which includes vegetation and water masked layers of the Global Fused Bare Earth Composite and Sentinel 2 Bare Earth Composite.

Lastly, you can choose to eitherOverwriteor Appendthe layers in the project. In most cases Overwrite is recommended.

If you select Overwrite, the chosen layers will be recreated with the updated product IDs and retain their original names. The project is automatically resaved with a new name (MarigoldProject_updated.sav). 

If you chooseAppend, the selected layers will be duplicated within the existing project and the new layers will have _updated appended to their original name (e.g., Fused_vmsk_FerrousIron_updated).

Click Update Layers button and the utility will convert the layers and automatically save the file (if using the Overwrite option).

You can now proceed with your work on the geographically updated .sav file. Your original .sav file will remain intact, allowing you to revert back to the Global version if needed due to any changes in your subscription level.
